We Asked 100 UK Face Gem Wearers What They Really Think — Here's What We Found...

To understand how people actually think about face gems — not just how we imagine they do — unel commissioned an independent survey of 100 UK adults who wear face gems. The results confirm some things we suspected, and overturn a few we didn't.

Festival season is still king, but Halloween is close behind

75% of respondents said they wear face gems for music festivals and concerts — comfortably the single biggest occasion. Halloween and costume events came a close second at 66%, followed by parties and nightclubs (44%). Weddings, proms and other special events accounted for 22%, and only 4% said they wear face gems as part of an everyday look.

The outfit decides — not the gems themselves

When we asked people to rank what actually decides whether they wear face gems for an occasion, outfit/costume and the type of event ranked highest — ahead of comfort and even durability. Comfort and durability of the gems themselves came last.

This is a genuinely useful, slightly counterintuitive finding: people aren't primarily choosing face gems because they're comfortable or long-lasting. They're choosing them because the occasion and outfit call for it — comfort and durability are secondary reassurances, not the trigger.

Glitter is still the most-loved style, by a distance

Glitter-focused designs were the clear favourite at 52%, roughly level preference for bold/statement and subtle/minimalist looks (34% each), then rhinestone (28%), themed designs like celestial or floral (24%), and pearl-focused (16%).

What people expect to pay

87% of respondents expect to pay somewhere between £2.99 and £4.99 for a single pack of face gems, with £3.99 the single most common answer (30%). Only 5% expect to pay £10 or more.
